One thing that we hear from all of the guests who visit any of our campouts is that it feels like family.
That’s by design. When we gather, we usually greet each other with hugs, and we sit down to catch up on what’s been happening since we last met. It always feels like a family reunion where you reconnect with your favorite cousins.
But that has its drawbacks. It breaks your heart when the campout comes to an end. And worse when someone is drawn away.
Sometimes our Cruisers move out of town or out of state. We have a couple of Cruisers moving just a little further than that this time.
Abdulmalik and Halimah Shakir are moving to West Africa.
Abdulmalik and Halimah have been living full-time in their RV for about three and a half years, but in October, they're moving to Ghana. This isn't their first time in the country; Several years ago, they’d planned to move their family to Ghana permanently, and Halimah lived in the country with their children for nearly six months. Abdulmalik spent three weeks there for work. Both fell in love with Ghana at that time.
However, the kids got homesick, which quashed their plans to become ex-pats, and the family returned to the US.

Halimah says Ghana feels very safe. She remarked that if you were to have car trouble and found yourself stopped along the side of the road, three or four people would stop to help you, something much less rare here in the US. She describes Ghana as having a "village feel," similar to the community they've built with their fellow RVers, "the Cruisers." They're excited to have a consistent community in Ghana.
Although the country is still developing, they believe they'll adjust. The official language is English, so communication won't be a problem, but they plan to learn a few local dialects to connect with the people there.
Abdulmalik has already applied for a job in communications within the Health Administration Department.
You’ll be missed, Abdulmalik & Halimah!
